The (Surprising) Consequences Of Obesity
There are plenty of effects of obesity that we know about, and that we aren’t surprised when hearing about. For example, everyone knows about heart disease, diabetes, and sleep apnea. But there are some conditions and problems that people don’t realize are a direct consequence of excess weight.
There are several skin conditions that are caused or worsened by obesity. Acne is an obvious one, and so are stretch marks, but so is psoriasis, dried, cracked skin on the feet and heels, and deep wrinkles and skin discoloration. Part of this has to do with a buildup of sodium and toxins in bad foods, but also the fat itself can become a contributing factor.
There are highly uncomfortable medical conditions that, while able to be maintained, are still very problematic for many. GERD, or acid reflux, is one of the most common ailments. It is unlikely to go away until the weight is lost, as well, even with a changed diet.
Hemorrhoids are another serious problem, as the added weight puts pressure on the veins of the anus, causing them to swell. In severe conditions that hemorrhoid can protrude and become cut off from blood circulation, requiring surgical intervention.
